Visual Arts
at
Academy of Finance and Enterprise

Visual Arts at AOFE is an exploratory program designed for high school students who have an artistic interest, dedication and enthusiasm they wish to pursue in a structured course of study. The High School Visual Arts program is a carefully planned arts curriculum that promotes intellectual, aesthetic and interpersonal growth.

In this program students take studio classes which focus on drawing, painting, print-making, and other art materials and techniques, as well as AP 2D Studio Art. The art high school academic program is highly valued as an integral component in the education of our students. Studio assignments are designed to introduce students to a variety of media and the nature of the creative process. Research, design, fabrication, exhibition, analysis and critique of student works are all essential components of our curriculum.

First Year
Students take introduction to Visual Arts (Also known as Required Visual Arts) This studio art course focuses on self-identity exploration through introductory techniques and materials of drawing and painting. This class places emphasis on developing foundational art and design skills in a variety of media, employing an appropriate art and design vocabulary, as well as using classroom critiques to encourage analysis and self-evaluation.

Second Year
Students take Visual Arts 2 (VA2). In the VA2 Studio art course students continue to advance their artistic skills in drawing, graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, traditional painting and some 3D art form exploration. This studio art course
focuses on social exploration as an overarching topic. Although structure and technique are addressed in this studio course, greater emphasis is placed on the interpretive style of each individual and the development of a professional portfolio.

Third Year
Students take Visual Arts 3 (VA3). In
VA3 Studio art course students start to focus on ONE of the following art media: drawing, graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, and traditional painting.  This medium will be the tool of choice (but not the only tool available) selected by each scholar to start planning and developing an AP and college application portfolio. This studio art course focuses on one research topic proposed by student and approved by teacher.

Fourth Year
Students take AP Studio 2D Art
. In the AP studio art course students develop their 2-D skills through materials and processes such as graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, collage, and others. You’ll create artwork that reflects your own ideas and skills and what you’ve learned in the previous years.
